On the 4th of September we say goodbye to our Ballito residence and take occupancy in our new home on Florida Road.
Counter Culture’s move to Florida Road comes on the back of immense excitement to be apart of the vibe that the city of Durban has to offer. Counter Culture was born on the backbone of the creativity that Durban holds, initially as a blog that aimed to showcase the incredible talent and creative minds of the people of Durban. For us to now call Florida Road home, is a dream come true.
We’ll be immersing ourselves in the ever-growing coffee culture that has erupted within South Africa’s warmest city. Florida road in particular is fast becoming a Coffee Hub with a number of independent coffee shops opening their doors in the last 12 months. Counter Culture is looking forward to adding value to the already vibrant coffee offering that Florida road and the rest of the city has to offer.
Durban’s Urban Regeneration projects are a huge pull factor for us. Florida Road has seen a revival over the past two years along with precincts like Station Drive and The Rivertown Triangle. To be apart of these programs and add creative input into them is an honour for us. We are so amped to be able to now part take in events that co exist with these Urban Regeneration programs such as First Thursdays!
Counter Culture has placed a large emphasis on the surf culture in Durban. Partnering with local brands such as Handpicked and Single Fin Events, we have co sponsored The Cave Rock Invitational and The Single Fin Shuffle. Our aim is to place ourselves closer to where the action is and by taking up residency on Florida Road we are afforded the opportunity to further immerse ourselves in Durban’s surf culture. The Piers and South Beach are only 4km’s from our new home, so if we are not pouring you coffee you can definitely catch us in the surf.
Our monthly film screenings and live music events will continue as well as our partnerships with local artisans such as East Coast Brewing Company. Our menu will be a smaller deli style menu focused on fresh local produce from independents producers like ourselves. The main focus of the café has and will always be our coffee. Along with our already established coffee offering we have some exciting new offerings that Durban hasn’t yet seen and we cannot wait to introduce them to the city. The café will boast free Wi-Fi and bottomless batch brew coffee for all the freelancers that roam the city. Oh yeah, and we will be bringing our famous pizza’s along with us to the city.
Look out for details on our Florida Road launch party on the 7th of September.
